A few of the best from 2006: read ‘em and weep (or laugh, or…)

by christina on December 12th, 2006

As we near the end of 2006, I’m not ready to look back quite yet on the year of drastic changes. Instead, I was curious to see what Solomother readers’ favorite posts are.

I suppose I shouldn’t have been surprised to see that entries of the most personal storytelling are the ones that got folks talking most. We’ve all got a story to tell, and I hope sharing mine does all the right things to you… make you laugh, cry, think, change, grow. Ahh, arrogance! To think I could do all these grand things. But your notes, your shared experiences, generosity, kindness and warmth have given me so much more than I could ever hope to give in return.

So, without further ado, I give you four stories:

A qui tu es l’amour: In the midst of a last, desperate attempt to save my marriage, a singer beloved by all of Corsica shattered my heart with a simple question for which I had no happy answer… ‘who adores you?’

How not to break up: my husband replaced the photos of me around the house with pictures of his family, erasing me from his life before my very eyes.

Rose’s story: There’s a swirl of controversy around this conversation I had with a mother of five who left her marriage of 15 years and fled with her five children to a shelter for battered women.

What do you do when your three year old stabs you in the heart? Smile. When your kid says he loves his grandmother more than he loves you… a part of you believes it, and is crushed. And my kid is nowhere near the ‘i hate you’ of teenagedom. Mother’s guilt is heavy stuff.
