A little tax advice for the soon to be single
Kelly over at b5media’s Tax Girl was invited to write an article for one of my favorite divorce blogs, The Modern Woman’s Divorce Guide. As we head into the end of the year, she’s got seven great tips for how to deal with your new status.

In her article, Tax and the Single Girl — Seven Things You Need to Know really does offer some great advice, including a nice clear definition of Head of Household status:
Head of Household (HOH) – You can file as HOH if you are unmarried (single, legally separated or divorced) and provide a home and at least 50% of the care of at least one dependent. You may file as HOH even if you were not divorced or legally separated at the end of the tax year if all of the following apply:
- you lived apart from your spouse for the last six months of the tax year, AND
- you file a separate tax return from your spouse, AND
- you paid over half the cost of keeping up your home for the tax year, AND

TAX FILEING for Single Stay at home Mother of 5 kids.
Home Owner. I payed $3000 in property Taxes .
I receive Alimony of $600.00 a month.
Will I receive Tax Credit for children as well as Tax break for home owners?
I also donated over $3000. In Furniture and clothes. And had a Online Business that failed . Will I be able to write off for Gas and Clothes?

Cindy, I’m not an accountant. I don’t even play one on TV. I suggest you hop on over to Tax Girl and ask her… good luck untangling it!
