A little wisdom from a single father
I do get to talk to single fathers quite often, and a recent pearl of wisdom from a single dad with surprising depth and insight is just too good not to share with my single mother friends here.
Most of life is the simple things, chopping the vegetables, folding laundry, doing the dishes, getting the essential tasks of life done. The lucky ones have someone sweet to do these things with, to leaven the mundane with quick wit, affectionate mumblings, accidental but welcomed shoulder bumps, glances of shared understanding. At the end of the day, the truly lucky ones look forward to sliding between the sheets, to feel the warmth next to them and know for one more day they are loved. The incredibly lucky ones find the occasional love making almost incidental, whether it is twice a day or twice a week. It is the spice, not the bread.
I just thought that was too lovely not to share.
