I was just reading the President’s proclamation declaring today to be “Human Rights Day”. Today also kicks off “Human Rights Week” according to the document I’m reading. And the 15th with be “Bill of Rights Day”.
Do these Days mean anything to anyone? Do Americans stop and contemplate the meaning of the freedoms and protections we are afforded by our Constitution and our Bill of Rights? I think we take for granted the liberties we are given as citizens of this country; not all peoples in all countries are so fortunate.

My day was spent up to my figurative elbows in the images and news that’s reeling out of Gaza, and I am emotionally and physically spent. I had to pick up my kid from school and bring him back to the office today, where I furtively typed and tried not to let images of dead children linger too long on my screen where the King of Everything could see them. He watched cartoons and colored in his activity book, said hello to my office mates, and was a great companion today.

I’m sorry. I’ve got no single mother schtick for you tonight.
All I can think about tonight is the suffering of the people trapped in the Gaza Strip. No matter how far on the side of Israel you might find yourself to be, have a thought for the women, children, men trapped by the blockade, living without the basic infrastructure that makes our lives so easy. And pray that there is a solution to this mess that doesn’t include the mass murder of an entire people, on either side of the equation.

Canada has issued a recall of Sherwood Brands Pirate Gold Chocolate Coins because the coins tested positive for melamine, the same contamination that has caused so many problems with other tainted products coming from China.
The Sherwood Brands website has no warning about the chocolate, but the recall issued by Canadian Food Inspection Agency is real. Snopes says so. Read the release and supporting details there.
