I do get to talk to single fathers quite often, and a recent pearl of wisdom from a single dad with surprising depth and insight is just too good not to share with my single mother friends here.
Most of life is the simple things, chopping the vegetables, folding laundry, doing the dishes, getting the […]

Contrary to popular belief, the Roomba isn’t for cat torture. It’s actually a little floor sweeping (red) or floor mopping (white — Scooba) robot. Turn it on and it maps out your floor, the obstacles, and goes to town. As soon as I save enough money, I’m going to invest in one of these little […]

So far, no shouting. So far, so good. We’re being kind to each other, as kind as we know how. I’ll tell you, it’s worth it. This visit could have been miserable; instead, it’s bittersweet. I’m grateful.
What I’d forgotten over these months, and what has been driven home to me in a most painful fashion, […]

Tired. I am so. so. tired.
I’ve missed my boy so much this past week; gypped out of snow days by a desire to make a good impression, to forge ahead on grasping this job and making it my own. My parents had the joy of snow days with the King of Everything, and I simply […]

1. I have two fetishes: pens and shirts. I can’t resist a beautifully made white shirt, which make Anne Fontaine a dangerous place for me to be. I also can’t write with ball point pens. I will go to the store and buy another pen, rather than use the ball point that’s in front of […]

The Ah Ring, explains […]

I wish all you solomothers out there, all you women who work so hard to make your homes, your children, your lives, your significant other’s life beautiful, I wish you joy. I wish you love. I wish you three more child-free hours to sleep tomorrow.
I’m dolled up. I’m feeling sexy and alive. I’m going to […]

You know, I’d write some pithy, personal post about single mom angst, but I’m too busy getting over myself, and getting a lovely coat of paint all over the living room walls. After I stop gasping at the price of paint!! But I picked up all the other things one needs to paint with from […]

As you may have noticed, this single mother blog has mostly been about keeping it all together and making the most of what little time you have. It’s where my life is, at this moment. I thought I’d put together a list of what I’ve learned, in the hope that it helps.
I’ll get to the […]

When we moved back to the States, I made a few conscious decisions while running around in a panic of FOOD! CLOTHING! SHELTER! WORK! This newly single mother decided that the Earth was a place worth taking care of, and that she’d better start doing a better job of it.
