Choice moms: Partner optional
Mikki Morrisette writes a strong blog in the Huffington Post about the choices women are making vis a vis marriage and children. It points out the very obvious truth that outsiders just don’t get it. Women choose to have children without marriage for a variety of reasons, from a biological clock connected to a time bomb about to go off to a 20 something’s assertion that men don’t seem to add enough to their lives for a long-term commitment.
How’s that for a modern woman?
Outsiders who have made different life choices often find it easy to criticize–often far too harshly, might I add–single mothers for all the things they do and don’t do. This is one of the reasons why it’s important to build a community of supportive women with similar experiences. I’m not saying you need to surround yourself with a bunch of “Yes” (Wo)Men, and exclude traditional families from your support network. That would be idiocy. But neither do you have to suffer the whips and chains of that self-righteous, narrow-minded minority who find themselves superior to most of the rest of the world…
Anyway. Read her article. She might know what she’s talking about you know. She’s the author of Choosing Single Motherhood: The Thinking Woman’s Guide and moderator of the popular website, Choosing Single Motherhood.
