Congratulations, SoloMother! It’s a kindergartner
This morning I was late to work. There was no way I’d miss this morning, or any other morning like it, from now until forever.
The King of Everything has been promoted to Kindergarten.
He was sad, thinking he hadn’t received an award, and although he didn’t get one for great attendance, or for honoring the school code (although I would have hit that little girl, too, if she’d climbed on my back, knocked me to the ground, and started choking me… but she didn’t get a good conduct award either), he got one for excellence in reading, and the little girl he’s crushing on got an award for EVERYTHING, so at least he picks the smart ones. His class sang songs and showed off all they have learned, and it was an amazing thing to watch these little creatures perform the same songs I’d seen at their assemblies over the school year and realize just HOW MUCH they have grown, and learned, and evolved. It was a lovely feeling to sit with these other parents and cheer all our kids on.
What I held close in my heart, with all these other memories of today, was holding him in my arms as we watched the other pre-K class receive their promotion, and know that no matter how big he gets, he will always fit into my heart.
