Does your kid eat Veggie Booty? Read this
There is a product-wide recall on all sizes and packages of Veggie Booty by Robert’s American Gourmet Foods. If you have any of this stuff in your house, please don’t eat it. There is a possibility that it has been contaminated with Salmonella, which can do all sorts of nasty things to your tummy if you ingest it.
Food geek facts: food poisoning is a misnomer. Properly labelled, Salmonella and other nasty little critters that bring you to your knees in prayer to the porcelain god are actually food-borne illnesses. And how.
If you should ever find yourself with a case of food-borne illness, there are a very few simple things you can do to weather the discomfort a bit better.
take small sips of water, Gatorade, or a similar, innocuous beverage. Don’t drink milk, juice, or coffee, even if you could get it past your lips. Hydration is the most important thing, and if you are vomiting, it’s better to have something in your stomach to bring up than to get stuck in dry-heave hell.
If you have a small child, you know the BRAT diet — bananas, rice, applesauce and
turkeytoast. Stick to these foods as your tender stomach recovers. If you have a fever of 102 F or higher for more than two or three days; bloody stools, or dehydration, get thee to a doctor go. Otherwise, treat yourself gently, and get better. Obviously, if it’s your little one, or if you are pregnant, you might want to get to the doctor anyway. if it is a food-borne illness, the doctor can call it into the CDC and they might be able to stop an outbreak if enough people have the same problem.
Remember: you are what you eat. And as that lovely little rat in Ratatouille says, “If you are what you eat, then I want to eat the good stuff!”
