Dog to Cat 2, checkmate

by christina on October 8th, 2007

blogtoberfest

No sign of the katten today, but we’ve not been looking for it too hard. Yesterday, while the sonchild was lobbying for said animal, I gently reminded him that his father was allergic to cats, and wouldn’t be able to visit our house if we got a cat (shhh, you evil-minded moms out there, that is NOT a good enough reason for getting a cat!)… and the King of Everything gave me this exaggerated shrug and said, “I don’t care!”

Today, out of the blue, he casually mentioned that we couldn’t let that cat live with us. Why? “Cause papa’s ‘lergic.”

We are going to borrow a neighbor’s mother’s dog. Sound complicated? it’s not really. She needs someone to sit the dog so she can sit her grandchild. The KoE needs a part-time pet, because with my crazy work schedule, we can’t have a full-time animal at the house. it would go nuts. So we can have a Saturday Night Hound, the KoE can take the pup for supervised walks and feed and brush and love on the animal for a little while, and my furniture stays in better shape.

I’d call that a win-win situation for almost all of us.

Now, to find out where that catten came from and find her a good home…

so, what’s up with that pretty little Blogtoberfest icon at the top of the page? Simple. Write a reply to this post and be entered to win a super-duper prize. I’ll give you a hint: it’s one of these prizes, and is best for children up to five years. Happy hunting this Blogtoberfest! Winner to be announced on Friday…

    part time pets are perfect.

Now if only we could find ourselves a part time dog (that isn’t my friend’s pitbull - *shudders*)

If you can believe it, my parents and my husband and I all sort of have joint custody of our dog Niko! Long story short, my husband and I were living in the UK for 8 months and said dog spent that time with my parents growing fondly attached to my dad. When we moved back, we were 3 months pregnant and said dog stayed with my dad until we had the baby. Now although we have the dog for a majority of the time, every now and then when I need a break from taking care of my baby, my husband, the house, and the dog, he goes over and spends time with grandpa!

I have heard of programs where you can adopt a dog for the day and take it for walks and then return it. I know when I was in college the small animal clinic allowed students to take dogs on walks. I thought it was a great idea.

I too am allergic to cats unfortunately. I’ve had cats most of my life too which is strange. We recently had to give our cat away which was sad, but my allergies improved quite a bit. We do have a dog too, and I think I’ve been converted into a dog person. :)
