Fall fun for your little family
Last year when my husband and I broke up, I stared at a desktop calendar–you know, one of those big paper ones that you put down on your desk–and stared in horror at all those blank days stretching before me. The beginning of the rest of my life, yes, but also an unknown path down which I had to travel.
I made a list of events for the King of Everything and me to do every weekend from the moment we arrived back in the US to sometime in mid-January. Fourteen or fifteen weekends of Something to Do. We went to festivals and free concerts, trick-or-treating at the National Zoo, and so much more. The Renaissance Festival was a thrilling time for the three year old. We went to a friend’s to celebrate Chanukah. We had friends over to decorate our Christmas tree.
We filled our days.
I would think that, for those of us who are newly separated, especially by the tragedy of death, filling the days with things to do, that surround you with people and a sense of the good things in life, is an important step towards building a life as a single parent. And if you are single by choice, the fall is a wonderful time to begin seasonal rituals that will form memories of a lifetime for you and your child.
About.com’s Single Parent channel has a great list of things to do this season. Please take full advantage of Jennifer Wolf’s suggestions, and carve out some good times for you and your kids!
