Five for Feminisim Meme
I feel so femimeme today. Madame Meow over at Zen Sarcasm tagged me for the five for feminism meme making its rounds in the blog-o-sphere. I’m diving in:
1. Self-sufficiency. You don’t need a man to fix it, find it, or finance it anymore. From bank account to boudoir, sisters are doing it for themselves. And it’s a good thing.
2. Babies. I’m amazed by how many happy, extraordinary families I know where the mother chose to have a child, through adoption or artificial means, and is raising a wonderful, happy, brilliant little kid. I’m not going to get into a pissing match about the demise of the nuclear family (though you might hear me harping time and time again that humans weren’t designed to live in the vacuum that is the single family, and maybe we should be banding together and forming tribes to get the job done)
3. Independence. I don’t have to get married at 18 to have a safe, secure life. I can dream of a future where I own my own home, work a good job, have friends, and nary a meal ticket do I see. I think this is a great thing for men, too. Men who want to meet the woman of their dreams, that is, without wondering if it’s the size of what’s in their pocket that makes a girl tingle.
4. Girl power. I’m watching a generation of little children growing up to dream big. Little boys declare their favorite color is pink, while little girls are hollering they’re Superman. And they’re having a heck of a time, too. Go, you.
5. Old girl network. Want to get something done? Call on an old girlfriend. Use your connections. Schmooze. Get heard. If only we could rock the vote this way, we could really move mountains, couldn’t we? So that’s what I think we should concentrate on for 2–8. Let’s shoot for 100% female voter participation in the next Presidential elections and see what can happen.
