Solo Mother

If you haven’t read Margaret and Helen yet, don’t wait. Friends for 60 some years, the conversation between these two women has spilled into the Internet, with hilarious, wry, take-that humor that makes me feel a) like I’m a crappy writer and shouldn’t even bother and b) glad that women like Margaret and Helen are out there, making life a little funnier for the rest of us.

What has this got to do with single mothers, you ask? Well, poor Helen has been reading Ann Coulter’s book so Margaret doesn’t have to, and yes, she did read about the whole single mothers are responsible for every evil on Earth’ thesis Ms. Coulter posits. You know, the one that pissed us all off a while back?

Helen opens her summary of Chapter 2 with this:

For those of you just joining us, I am summarizing Ann Coulter’s new book for my friend Margaret so she doesn’t have to buy it herself.   It’s kind of my version of Cliffs Notes except I call it Hell ‘N Notes because reading an Ann Coulter book is like visiting hell… only this time the devil wears Prada in a ladies shoe size 17.  They should give me a medal for this kind of sacrifice!

I mean, how could you not love this woman for telling it like it is? Of Ms. Coulter, Helen writes: “But truly Ann is one  of the great “thinkers” of our time.  She doesn’t just list what is wrong with the world;  She also has the answer that will make everything right again.  Her well thought out solution?  Keep your knees together before marriage.”

So I’m hanging it up, kids. I can’t do it as well as Helen can. Go on. Read her post, “Come Ann Coulter or High Water” and tell her us single mothers say hi. Then start at the top of Margaret and Helen and enjoy all the writing.
