It’s Christmas time in the city

If you ever stop by the nation’s capital around the holiday season, stop by the National Botanic Gardens. This year the incredible train set runs outside, while inside, extraordinary models of the city’s most famous buildings have been constructed of plant materials. Absolutely worth a trip or two. And it’s free, open to the public.

I think one of the best qualities of Washington DC is the fact that most attractions are “free”, meaning that you don’t have to pay any MORE than you already pay in taxes to visit. In my city many of our cultural institutions are free, and I’m always reluctant to pay for admission to such facilities in other cities because I’m not accustomed to having to do it.

Two of my kids are supposed to go to DC in May. I’ve not been since i was a teen - but what I do remember from then was that it was breathtaking. Even as a teen, I saw the glory in all that our capital held. So sad that not everyone gets to see it.
