I’ve joined the Compact

No, it’s not a cult. Kate over at Babylune is in, how ’bout you?

It’s a group started in San Francisco (where else?) that made a promise not to buy anything new for a year. I wrote about it over at Inside Motherhood (read “Can you live with less? The Compact is inspiring change“). From time to time, I’ll write about how I’m doing with that promise. So far, so good. My first snag was today, when I got a call for a job interview on Friday (go, ME!) but don’t have any nice paper to print my resume! What to do?

I’m going to call a few friends and see if they can loan me a few sheets. If that doesn’t work, I’m going to have to think of something. This is a chi-chi firm. Doesn’t do to show up with plain old copy paper. No No NO! I haven’t scored anything fabulous, but I am refraining from purchasing a coffee bean grinder, bookshelves, paint, or clothes. I picked up three bags of clothes from a good mother Samaritan, and most look good on me. I did go to the grocery store but only bought things on sale, mostly buy one, get one FREE! and all of it was food.

My mother, lovely lady that she is, spotted a children’s thrift store sporting a gigantic, “Buy one, get one free!” sale, and so we’ll stock up on winter clothes again, since the King of Everything has outgrown most of the winter clothes we have for him already. Go figure! His little wrists are getting mighty cold, poking out between coatsleeves and mitten bottoms. When my cleaning products run out, I’ll look into Karen Logan’s “Clean House Clean Planet” and find some recipes for making my own household cleansers. It’ll be great.
