Kicking the Cookie Monster to the curb

by christina on September 12th, 2007

The King of Everything was turning into a sugar junkie. To my horror, I realized I was one of his dealers. He would throw sh*t fits when he didn’t get dessert–and to him, dessert meant something sweet. With refined sugar in it. And let me tell you, his Dessert Tremors were horrible to watch whenever he went through withdrawal.

The other night, I headed off the Cookie Monster at the pass. The KoE even aided in its demise. Together, we peeled and sliced apples into quarter inch chunks. I threw two prepared apples into a little pot with about three tablespoons of mango juice, a handful of currants, a peeled and sliced pear, a dash of nutmeg, a sprinkle of cinnamon… let the whole thing simmer for about 15 minutes til the apples were tender and the currants were plumping…

The KoE ate a big bowl of it.

If your cookie monster isn’t ready to go cold turkey, might I suggest breaking a few graham crackers or other low-sugar cookies into the mix?

great idea. sugar cravings usually are a need for something healthier, but sweet. I got addicted to soda pop as it was the only thing that kept food down when I was preggers, but often 100% juice will satisfy me just as well.
