No more plastic sandwich and snack bags! ReSnackIt giveaway

Day after day you pack your kid’s sandwich in one plastic bag, his goldfish snack in another plastic bag, and you send him out with trash to throw away. Every day, your kid goes to school, unwraps her sandwich, eats her goldfish, and tosses the disposable baggies away.

Every day. Two, sometimes three pieces of plastic into the landfill five days a week, almost all year round. What would that look like if you stacked it all up in your house?

There’s a fabulous mom-owned business that can put an end to that terrible landfill we call lunch.  Her company is called Live and Dream Green, and the product is ReSnackIt. Imagine sliding your kid’s sandwiches and snacks into pure cotton pouches lined with an unbleached nylon that’s lead free, phthalate free, BPA free and PVC (vinyl) free.

Live and Dream Green LLC was founded by a Mom who dreams of a greener world and believes being environmentally friendly does not mean sacrificing convenience and style.

After running out of plastic sandwich/snack bags for her kids’ school lunch one day, she knew there had to be a better way… then was born “ReSnackIt”™.

After the jump, my review of this fabulous product and how YOU CAN WIN a set of snack and sandwich bags.

I fell in love with these bags the moment I unwrapped them. Beautifully made, with quality craftsmanship my craftsman heritage instantly appreciated. Sturdy. Playful. Important.

The nylon does a great job of wicking any stray moisture away, and the sandwiches stay moist. The velcro is well secured to the pouches and does a good job of keeping closed. My son loved them, and I’m going to order him a set, too. Maybe the baseball ones, though I love so many of the prints. Maybe Galaxy or Bubbles. I might get some for me, too.

If you want to own this lovely set of one snack bag in Green Trellis and sandwich bag in Peace Out, leave me a comment here with a valid email address in the proper field. I’ll draw the winner on Friday morning.

And if you’re so inclined to order some, please tell her that Solomother sent you. You can view her whole collection, here.

OK, those are way cooler than the lame plastic wonderbread sandwich keeper thingamabob that I bought for the lunch bag this year.

I’m amazed you’ve got the time to make lunch everyday! From one single ADHD mom to another, you’re doing very well!

I love your blog, it is a source of inspiration to me.

“Find a need and fill it,” I tell readers at Home Biz Notes. That’s just what one mom did with these bags. And with so many people “thinking green,” they’re sure to be a hit.

But what about messy sandwiches? Chocolate cookies? Greasy chips? Do you pop these bags into the laundry? So there’s another side to the picture…use of more soap and more water (in sort supply in some areas) and more electricity (to be taxed higher if “cap & trade” goes through). Also more work for a busy mom.

Where’s the balance? I’m pondering on that.

Mary Emma, I think you will agree that there is no extra soap, hot water, or laundry for this. You can simply pop them in with any load of laundry you’re already doing. They don’t contribute significantly to the volume of household wash. You could argue the same thing about the shammies I use to clean my dishes and indeed, my whole house. I bought one pack almost three years ago, and simply throw the cloths in with my laundry– I haven’t thrown away a sponge in years.

Messy sandwiches are fine in the bags, you wipe them down at the end of the day.

If I were washing 100 of these things a day, I’d see your point.

My friend told me we’re being selectively grossed out by a little mayo on reusable bags when there is a swirling plastic bag mass in the middle of the ocean.

    Good point. Enter me.

Thanks so much, Carmela. I find it helps if I break my day into five minute chunks. You can get a lot done in five minutes. Lunch? easy peasy.

Tracy, that cracks me up. Mayo goo. Ick. But seriously? I’m thinking about buying myself a couple of sets of bags. That way, I can have one in the wash and one in the kid’s lunch box. And mostly? A wipe with a little green clean is all they need.

What a great product! My girls take stainless steel lunch pails to school and I could use these snack bags to stick inside to separate all the items.
