One voice will not be heard; a million voices can change the world
There is an estimated 82.5 MILLION mothers residing in the United States.
Why aren’t we more active in demanding that the issues closest to our hearts: safe and excellent schools, flexible work hours, affordable and GOOD health care, paid family leave, decent child care, safe streets, healthy food, etc etc? Why can’t we join forces and make our voices heard? Other special interest groups have lobbyists. It’s about time we had someone making noise for our team. 65% of us voted in the 2004 elections. What went wrong? Why isn’t that number 85%… 95%?
MomsRising is a non-partisan organization–they will not be endorsing a candidate in the 2008 race. But if only 2,000 of us give $25, the organization will be able to mount a campaign that will bring women’s issues to the table. Here are some of the goals they hope to accomplish with that small donation:
- Invite the candidates to talk directly with MomsRising moms–we want them to know first hand what’s important to us!
- Seize the media-moment created by a presidential election to get national coverage on the need for a family-friendly America.
- Host a presidential forum on YouTube where citizens can engage the candidates on their platforms to support children and parents.
- And most importantly, on the days leading up to the election, we will pull out all the stops to encourage moms to vote.
If you would like to make a donation to this effort, please click here. And pass on the link to your friends. Let’s see what we can do to turn this crazy country around and get it back on track, while there’s something left for our children.
