Please ma, can I have him can I can I?
One of the battles here at single mother headquarters is the battle for a pet. The kid hasn’t marshalled all his forces yet, so I can keep the upper hand for now. But he’s wearing down my defenses with his adorable and heartbreaking technique of bonding with toy animals. He’s got a fake ferret that chases a ball, and has long, intimate conversations with his RoboReptile who is, I am surprised to say, a girl.
But perhaps I could squeeze out a few more months of pet-free life if I won the contest over at The Food Bowl. Marty the dog is a character in the Beacon Street Girls books, and this cute little plushie might make it into the cotton menagerie and get me off the hook. All you have to do is leave Heather a comment on the contest page. That’s all.
If your taste runs towards the feline, or if you like things that hop, slither, or burrow, I’m sure Heather has written about it. I’m having fun surfing her entries, admiring the animals and laughing at the Engineer’s Guide to Cats — Tim, that one is definitely for you.

Both my children begged for a pet. I relented after another wise single mom clued me in to the benefits of small rabbit. Warm, furry, and cuddly. Lives happily in a cage and easily tolerates absences unlike dogs. No need to walk in the rain. Feeding and watering are chores easily managed by young children. Good luck!

So glad you liked the rabbit suggestion. Just remember—ask how big the rabbit will be when fully grown. You want to hear something that says small.

Wonderful stuff. Good luck on holding out against a pet; with a child, resistance may likely be futile. So enjoy those final few weeks before welcoming in the newest member of your family.
The video was worth it just for the startled look on Wendy’s face when the cats were meowing during corporal cuddling. Priceless!

I was at the sheep show a few years ago and some girl put an angora bunny in my hands. Poor thing had never been away from its mama before, and had been passed around one too many times, so as I held it in my arms, it peed on me.
I didn’t blame him one bit.

LOL Tim! I hope she couldn’t see the video and witness the kitty torture going on.
