Some ideas on how to save a few bucks here and there.

by christina on January 24th, 2008

Thrifty Mommy is a great blog for how to save a few bucks. For those of you still hangin’ with the diaper set, there’s a post over on Thrifty Mommy about Baby Cheapskate. Check out her sidebar for hot tips on the best deals, including diapers.

Spidering along on her blog brings us to Freepeats, an organization with regional forums that helps parents give away the baby gear they are done with… FREE. Check to see if there’s a Freepeats group in your neighborhood.

Here’s Angie’s note on how Freepeats works:

I wanted to clarify something about Freepeats: If you join within your forum’s first month, your lifetime membership is completely free. If you join after that, it’s $4.95– a one-time fee. You’ll never be charged again, and you can use the forum to find and pass on free gently-used baby stuff as long as you like.

Freepeats.org is currently open in Atlanta, DC, and Philly. We’re opening in Chicago, Houston, and Boston next Friday, Feb. 1.

And as an aside, don’t forget to check your local Freecycle and Craigslist for free stuff before you go out and spend your hard-earned money.

Here’s another fun site: Kids Eat Free, a listing of restaurants, diners, pizza parlours, etc. by city where Kids Eat Free!

Which reminds me of a Hooters ad I saw in the outer fringes of New York State one day. There was this giant billboard of a buxom, teeshirted babe reclining on her hip. Her breasts were, as you would expect for such a restaurant… large and rather unavoidable on this billboard, and running across the bottom of the ad, right beneath the waitress’s breasts, were the words, “KIDS EAT FREE EVERY TUESDAY!”

I wonder if the waitresses had to prove they were lactating before management would hire them?

I was just thinking about you this week and wondering how you’re doing. I was going to swing by and lurk around a bit.

    Ha ha, funny bulletin board.

I’ve got another website for you - imommies.com. You can subscribe to their emails and they send coupons, deals, info on paid surveys, etc.
