Solo Mother

Sunday’s smile

by christina on September 30th, 2007

Tonight, I helped my parents throw a dinner party in honor of a local theater’s thirtieth year. I ended up working it. Worked my butt off. But my folks were so happy, it was worth it. I love to help, and the way my weeks have been going lately, I really needed a couple of hours where I could make a difference to someone. It felt good.

And then I picked my kid up from my amazing friend’s house and he was such a sweet, wonderful boy. Helps that he loves my friend and her daughters and her husband. I can’t wait to return the favor and hang out with her twins. They are nifty.

The King of Everything couldn’t get enough snuggling tonight. At 9PM, when he’s supposed to have been asleep for at least an hour, he was still asking for snuggles. I tucked him into his truck sheets again and curled up next to him.

“Pick your legs up, mama,” he instructs me. I do, and he carefully covers me over with the sheet, tucking it under my chin and making sure each part of me from the neck down is well covered. “Is that a nice thing, mama? I want you to be warm all over.”

“Why thank you, Nicolas. You are the kindest, nicest boy in my whole life. That makes me feel so good when you care about me.” He visibly glowed in the dark.

“Thank you mama. That makes me feel so good to hear that.” He patted and stroked my cheek for a moment, then tucked his hands under my chin.

Goodnight, SoloMothers everywhere.
