I have absolutely no idea what to say.
My kid is five. My amazing, funny, high maintenance, gobsmacking, utterly hysterical, kind, sweet, thoughtful little guy is a whole hand old, and I’m in awe of him. He’s come so far in such a short time, dealing with utter equanimity the bizzare turns this past week has thrown at him, from the announcement that we’re moving to spring break at the amazing Camp Grammie’s to his father suddenly showing up rather unexpectedly for his birthday. The King of Everything is recovering from his surgery. He doesn’t know how to slow down, take care of himself, take it easy. He moves pell mell through life and doesn’t stop til he drops; the pain in his throat makes eating and drinking a chore he’d rather forgo. By six he’s wilted, his head on his arms at the table, trying not to cry.
