Solo Mother

Home again…

It was wonderful to get away, even though I was pretty well tethered to work with the Blackberry and the cottage’s wireless connection. We read books. We cooked food and ate out. We swam in the ocean and walked the Boardwalk. We played arcade games and made gigantic bubbles in the backyard.
And every time we […]

Even I’d throw a temper tantrum if I thought it would help

The KoE is whiny mush by the time 7PM comes around, but the family wanted to represent at the PTA meeting tonight, and the older grades were demonstrating the games they developed for the Sally Ride toy competition, and the KoE was abuzz and agog at the idea of Staying Up Late! Or it’s his Grandpa’s fault. I could play pop psychologist and surmise that he’s angry and sad and hurt that […]

A single mom rant.

I suck. Everything was going well, on the surface. A friend picked up the King of Everything for a playdate with her daughter — his bestest friend in the whole wide world. Great! I show up to make dinner for everyone, and he’s happily playing, pretending to ice skate on some old carpenter knee pads. […]
