Take care of yourself, single mother!
You ladies really like to shop for shoes.
And books.
And clothes.
And good smelling things.
Seems we’re all spending so much time just getting through all the days, trying to turn 24 hours into 48, we don’t have much time for ourselves. My week has been so hectic, that bath I wanted to take on Tuesday night didn’t happen until Wednesday morning.
We need to find a way to take care of ourselves as well as our children. That includes fun time, like dancing, reading, stretching our bodies and minds… But we need to be sure we take care of our health, as well.
Health insurance is expensive, and with the cost of food skyrocketing, I’m worried that some of us single moms might slip from ‘just getting by’ to ‘going under’. Keep an eye on your costs, and keep your health insurance if you can! If you’re uninsured or have opted to just get major medical coverage for emergencies, please don’t neglect your annual checkups. If you’re a woman of a certain age (35 and up), please get a yearly mamogram. There are programs in every part of the country offering low-cost screening for women’s health issues like breast cancer. Early detection gives you and your doctors a better chance for a complete cure.
Same goes for your annual PAP. Don’t neglect it. The good news is, cervical cancer is slow-growing, but you have to get your yearly tests to be sure you’re not sliding towards cancer.
The CDC has links on this great website to programs for low-income women to maintain their reproductive health. Even if you’re done having children, you need to take care of yourself. We need to be around for a good long time, so we can dance with our grandchildren in the living room.

Sometimes mothers love their kids so much that they have forgotten to love themselves.
