Teen pregnancy pact has me throwing up this morning
What on EARTH are we doing? Why did these teen-aged girls in Massachusetts, some younger than 16, intentionally get themselves knocked up? How selfish, self-centered, and stupid can we get? How unfair was this for the boys who helped these girls get pregnant, and who are now facing criminal charges of statutory rape?
I’m gobsmacked. 51 lives are being irrevocably altered by this insane, irresponsible decision. How can anyone think that raising a baby is a lark, a game, a frivolous decision to be made by children? How are these girls going to feed and house themselves and their babies? Will they finish high school, go to college, get a master’s degree? How many of them actually told their sexual partners that they were intentionally seeking impregnation? How many of them actually considered that they would be putting their partners in grave trouble by having sex, even consensual?
I’m going to go hug my son, now. Excuse me. God, I hope he stays a virgin for a long, long time. I hope your sons and daughters do, too.

This is a terribly sad story. I was particularly appalled that school officials believe that many of the “fathers” are men in their twenties. So many lives affected forever.
Babies having babies . . .pregnancy is not the road to adulthood. Jamie Lynn Spears is not a role model; she’s likely a victim.

On the one hand, this is groupthink gone terribly wrong. However, my cynical side says it’s more likely that these girls are looking to cash in. Like gold-digging women who are looking to cash in on some doddering old billionaire, these girls are looking to cash in on society’s hyper-elevation of The Mom-to-Be and its pseudo-taboo/self-righteous guilt complex of single motherhood.
Basically, they’re having kids so they can 1) get a ton of free loot, 2) become “famous” (as helped by the fact this is even news to begin with), 3) avoid the pressure of dealing with their biological clock later in life by getting the “have kids” list item out of the way early, and 5) still be young enough when the kids are grown to have whatever they consider “a life.”
The superintendent in the news story wasn’t kidding when he said they’re “girls who lack self-esteem and have a lack of love in their life.”
Keeping kids virgins isn’t going to avoid this problem in the future. Raising them with healthy senses of themselves will. No school or government program can do that, as this news story makes clear. So that raises the question: Where the hell are these girls’ parents? Down at the corner store buying lotto tickets?

Hello, So I have been lurking long enough! I am appalled at this. What is happening to our children they do not feel unconditional love so making babies it the answer?
I am a single mom of three boys, I am divorced, have a college education and I still struggle how will these girls ever make it? Sounds like they are missing some good old fashion parenting, time to turn off the technology and start talking to your kids!!

I like that NBC is spreading a good message to teens about not getting pregnant. I will have my brothers and sisters watch Baby Borrowers. does anybody know when it starts?

I’m dubious about reality tv teaching our kids, but I’ll hold out judgement until I see the show. I think it starts the 25th of June.
