Thanksgiving wrap-up
I’m stealing someone’s low bandwidth, since I won’t get hooked up meself until the first of December; believe me, it’s been a long six weeks without decent Net access!
One of the not so charming things about where we live is who else lives in the house with us: there are Rodents of Undetermined Size prowling about the kitchen at night. There was a moment of, “Now what do I do?” when the two pies slated for Thanksgiving dinner were lined up, cooling on the stove, and I could just imagine the pitter patter of little feet. Since my son has never had little feet, you know who I’m talking about. Luckily, I found enough room in the fridge to feel confident about delivering perfect pies.
I am so thankful for the dozens of women and men, family and friends, complete strangers and the like who have made our first eight weeks on our own so much more… bearable. I’m thankful for the landlord who came over and plugged up the entry holes into the house so I can stop having nightmares about four legged furry intruders. I’m grateful for the wonderous feast my parents, my son and I shared and prepared together, and the fact that the Little Man got to go to Cirque du Soleil with his grammie afterwards and I got to sleep. Sleep!
I’ve not done anything about actually moving towards a divorce. In a way I’m grateful that my husband and I have taken this breathing space and not pummelled helter-skelter into divorce, and paperwork, and he said she said, and arguments and settlements and …
but oh I wish he lived in the same city as his son. I’m grateful I have such good friends who are willing to be extra mothers and fathers to him when he needs them.
