What’s your morning like, single mother?
I was poking around the Internet tonight and came across this documentary clip about a single mother’s morning routine with her six year old son.
Before I moved closer to my job and my parents, and switched jobs for different hours, our morning was much the same. Early morning wake up. Tired boys and girls. Throwing breakfast in us as fast as we could, and then a fast run to the before-care program at the neighborhood public school. God, I hated dropping him off at school at 7:30 in the morning so I could make it to work by 8AM.
What is your morning like? How to you make it work, with no one to help you?

REally powerful video.
My 16 year old and I watched it together, and it’s really strong!
Thank you for sharing!
My morning?
5:00am: Wake up, get myself dressed.
5:40am: Get my two little girls (17 month old and 5 month old) up and out the door
6:00am: Get to work with my best friend whom I carpool with and work with.
6:05am: Leave work, take the girls to the baby sitters
6:20: Drop girls off, change diapers, tell baby sitter anything she might need to know
6:35: Leave and go to work
7:00amish- Get back to work.
(Luckily the three oldest are all above 13 years old, so two of them are in high school and the other is in middle school. They can get themselves ready and to the school bus)

My day starts out at 6 am. I get up and take a shower and I wake up my girls at 6:30. They are like bears and neither one of them want to get up.
As I am yelling 50 thouand times to get dressed LOL I am rushing around trying to get dressed, get lunchboxes ready, double check homework is in the backpack and getting something for breakfast.
We now have such a routine that we are out the door by 7:10.
We are then off to daycare. Daycare is about 10-15 minutes near my home but depends on if I get stuck behind a school bus LOL.
I drop them off and the daycare van drops them off and picks them up from school.
I then drive to work which is another 20-25 minutes and work 8-4:30.
They joke with me at work saying that I have already had a full days work before I even get there.
They aren’t kidding.
I am out the door at 4:30 from work and get to the daycare by 5.
Then it’s off to home where I will have to run around getting dinner ready while the girls do homework.
They have some playtime and then it’s off to bed.
Then we do it all over again.

Mornings are always the same….
alarm at 630am…hit snooze and watch the morning news to check the weather. my time
7am go and pull clothes out for my oldest, wake him up (10 year old boy) then go pull clothes out for the twins wake them up. They climb into my bed to watch the TODAY show….I shower (usually with a child in the bathroom telling me about their day, about how their brother touched them or crying on the floor) and get dressed. Herd the crowd towards the living room to pack up their back packs.
Go get everyone breakfast, cereal or waffles. clean up the kitchen and shove everyone out the door, that is if i can find everyone’s shoes…
phew! i have been a single mom since the twins were 18 months… it is a full days work when i get to work and then i have a full day when i get home….i work all day then in spring and fall i coach sailing, so i get home later, homework, laundry and so on….how do other people do this without going mad??

This is kind of old, but just in case someone comes across it.
Mom, your 10 year old - buy him an alarm clock! It’ll be a week or so of you needing to follow up but my 8 and 10 year old get up on their own. Pack their own lunches. And get dressed. So we get up at 6:30 and are out the door by 7:25 or so.
