Words of the day

by christina on November 21st, 2006

bambooA very kind friend shared this passage with me. It’s from a book he read a long time ago; these words stayed with him:

“The evidence of the goodness in life stands before us.  I am not blind.  I can see.  And so, to talk too much about the past would reduce it.  This is what I think.  And it may be different from what you think.  Life was real once, and it will be again.  This in between time, the voyage out and back, seems much like a dream.

Events pass by in clear quick images that, when pieced together, seem to mean something, but the meaning cannot be deciphered.  Perhaps there will come a day when I can look back at this time.  Perhaps then I can understand it.”

Thanks, my friend. I needed that. I hope there’s someone else out there who will be helped by these words, too. If there’s some quote, or phrase, that helps you get through the day, let me know…

Right now, the most popular litany among my single mother friends seems to be, ‘It is what it is.’

“And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” — Anais Nin

Those words don’t help me every day, but close enough. :)

And if that particular passage doesn’t help, it sure can’t hurt to leaf through her writings a little bit, can it?

Thanks for using my quote, Christina. To give proper credit, the book is called “The Time In Between”, by David Bergen. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Let’s take the time to reflect and be thankful for the things we do have.

Paul, thank you for sharing the origin of that quote. I might just go find myself a copy of the book. Merry Christmas to me, right?

Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving. Talk to you soon.
